FIRE AT LAKE MEAD MARINA ON 3 MARCH CAUSES DAMAGE TO SEVERAL BOATS:

Fire at Lake Mead Marina Last Night

At about 9:33 p.m. last night (Wednesday, March 3, 2003) Lake Mead Marina security personnel reported a fire to the National Park Service. The fire was on the B Dock, Lighthouse Way of Lake Mead Marina. The fire was fully extinguished at about 11:30 p.m. At this time, we believe nine boats were damaged:

Five boats were totaled and sank;
One boat is almost completely underwater;
Two additional boats have extensive fire damage;
And, one large houseboat also has fire damage.

At this time, there are no reported injuries and no one is reported missing. National Park Service, Lake Mead National Recreation Area divers are in the water (as of about 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2003) to confirm the extent of the damage and to ensure no one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. The National Park Service is on the scene and investigating the incident.

Slip renters have been notified.

Updates will be sent as information becomes available
